La traversée de la Meije (3 983 m) avec le bureau des guides
A major climb on an emblematic peak in the Alps
The rise of the Meije via the Promontoire refuge, followed by the crossing of its ridges to the Doigt de Dieu, is the dream of many mountaineers and a consecration for many of them. La Meije is the last major summit in the Alps to have been climbed, after many attempts, on August 16, 1877 by Emmanuel Boileau de Castelnau, the Vénéon guide Pierre Gaspard and his son. The entire crossing is a very varied and very exposed route. It requires a sense of the route, good management of the ropes and protection of the rope team, offers subtle and physical climbing passages, and a mixed evolution at almost 4 meters of altitude on the edge of the ridges at the climax, with rappels. You will fully enjoy this magnificent route when you are sufficiently experienced in climbing in big mountain boots (level IV+) and crampons, acclimatized to the altitude and on a day of good weather. For several seasons, the ideal period to cover this great route has been from mid-June to the end of July, but this is not an absolute rule. We carefully monitor the conditions of Reine Meije throughout the year, so don't hesitate to contact us if the route of its historic route and its ridges is in your sights... NB: possibility of making the crossing in two days with bivouac at the summit of the Grand Pic (contact us).
Location accuracy
The Guides and Accompanists Office is located on the Glacier Cable Car Square in the Meije.
