Keith Haring is an American artist and social activist known for his illustrated graffiti. Haring's bold, linear drawings often cover public spaces in New York City on the subway and in the city; his mural Crack is Wack (1986) still occupies a wall on Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive, a highway that runs along the East River in Manhattan. He is friends with Kenny Scharf and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and lives and works in New York City after moving there to study at the School of Visual Arts in the late 1970s. Born Keith Allen Haring on May 4, 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania, he learned to draw at an early age and showed an interest in cartoons and popular culture. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Bass Museum in Miami, and others.…
