Paragliding appeared in the 1960s and evolved from the round parachutes used for jumps from airplanes. Seeking to improve maneuverability in flight, parachutists and engineers developed more efficient sails, inspired by glider wings. In the 1980s, this free flight discipline became popular, making it possible to take off on foot from the mountains and offering a simpler and more accessible aerial experience.
