Located in the northwest of Écrins massif, the Taillefer massif is formed by 3 parallel chains which multiply the opportunities for hiking. The highest point is the Taillefer, at 2857 m. The massif has many snowfields, accumulations of snow which are below the threshold of eternal snow.

The Taillefer massif has a winter sports resort, the Alpe du Grand Serre, which also offers activities during the summer: swimming, via ferrata, bike park, children's playground and, of course, hiking! The massif is large enough to provide circuits for all levels, you will necessarily find one that suits your physical condition and that of the people accompanying you.


Hikes for all levels in the Taillefer massif

For hiking route in the Taillefer massif easy level, you can follow the Romanche Gorges Trail, taking an impressive Himalayan footbridge! 15 m long, it overlooks the river at a height of 10 m. This 2-hour walk allows you to visit the Romanche museum in Rioupéroux, or for the more athletic, to tackle many famous climbing blocks.

Just as easy, a route takes you of the Grenonière — Ornon to the Taillefer refuge. This 4 km circuit will take you a little over 2 hours to go. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the guardians of the refuge from Taillefer. This refuge has the particularity of offering a loan of fences for riders. You will also have the opportunity to feast on local products and homemade dishes in a 30 m2 yurt, before setting off to explore the Fourchu plateau, classified Natura 2000.

As you walk among the multitude of small lakes (no less than a hundred!), you will probably come across one of the frogs that populate the ponds. An orientation table is located 50 m from the refuge, with a panorama of all the mountains of Oisans.


Take a break of several days in the heart of the massif!

For seasoned walkers, there are many other hiking routes in the Taillefer massif can be borrowed. For example, you can get into the Taillefer tower in 4 days. This is a difficult route, with an elevation gain of over 3000 metres: set off well equipped and trained! On the programme: dizzying passages, spectacular panoramas, discovery of mountain lakes… With once again, a stop at the friendly Taillefer refuge.

You can also go fromOulles at the Pas de la Buffe. This circuit takes you to the smallest village in Isère, before reaching the mountain pastures. It is a route of just over 2 hours, over 4,6 km, of a fairly difficult level.

Finally, to spend even more time surrounded by the natural spaces of Oisans, you can do the Tour of the Taillefer massif in 6 daysThis is a medium-level hike that allows you to admire waterfalls, lakes, passes and high plateaus, over a 77 km loop, with an elevation gain of almost 4000 m!
