Fête du Pain Bouilli (Pô-Buli) de Villar d'Arène
19November22November2026
This tradition dates back to around 1428 and will allow you to discover Faranchines specialties such as stuffed pies and ravioli! A sale to benefit the association for the conservation and operation of the oven and the mill.
The scarcity of wood probably explains this custom specific to the canton: before, just before the first snows, the community would work for several days to make bread for the year.
Boiled bread, or "pô buli" in the local dialect, is prepared according to an unchanging recipe. It's an intense and important process involving long kneading sessions. Bakers and kneaders were chosen to make this bread, which is kneaded with rye flour and boiling water—hence its name. Shaped into 5kg loaves, they bake for 7 hours.
Even today, the tradition continues in the Land of Meije in the village of Villar d'Arène. Families cook together in a warm and friendly atmosphere to the delight of passers-by who can also taste the culinary specialties, pies, rissoles, pompes, and more...
