Communauté de Communes de l'Oisans

Today, Oisans has turned towards tourism with the creation of several internationally renowned ski resorts: the large ski area of ​​L'Alpe d'Huez which extends over 7 communes (Auris, le Freney, La Garde, Huez, Oz, Vaujany and Villard Reculas) and Les 2 Alpes in 3 municipalities (Mont de Lans, Venosc and Saint Christophe en Oisans). The creation of the Écrins National Park in 1973 also made it possible to register the Oisans territory as one of the most remarkable for the beauty of its landscapes and the richness of its fauna and flora. A major industrial center is located in Gavet where a factory has three furnaces producing silicon.
The canton of Oisans includes 20 communes, extends over 546 km² and has a permanent population of 10 inhabitants (source INSEE), the population reaches approximately 747 inhabitants in peak winter and 100 inhabitants in summer. In order to be more efficient and to have an optimized management of public funds, the communes of Oisans wanted to federate to exercise together a certain number of skills at the level of the canton. The 000 communes of Oisans decided to create the community of communes of Oisans at the end of 60. Its objective is to coordinate concrete intercommunal actions within the territory of Oisans.
The community of communes is a space of solidarity, with a view to developing a common development and planning project. For this, it has its own additional taxation which gives it permanent resources allowing it to carry out its projects and guarantee the good management of intercommunal public services.
The Oisans community of communes was created by prefectural decree on December 24, 2009. It results from the extension of the Deux Alpes community of communes and the modification of its statutes.
Thus, the Oisans community of communes has brought together all the skills historically exercised by inter-municipal unions, such as waste collection and treatment, television broadcasting, aid to social, economic, agricultural and cultural organisations in the area, tourism promotion, development of roads of community interest, the medical centre and the public services centre.
It also retained some of the skills of the former community of communes of Les 2 Alpes in order to maintain the achievements of cooperation between the communes of Mont de Lans and Venosc, in particular for the 2 Alpes Tourist Office and social, cultural, educational, housing and tourist and school transport skills.
