Mairie d'Auris-en-Oisans
Located in the heart of Oisans, the commune is made up of a group of 11 hamlets spread over the slopes of the Signal de l'Homme which peaks at 2176 m.
The Commune of Auris benefits from exceptional sunshine thanks to its southern exposure and a remarkable view of the Girose glacier and the legendary peaks of the Meije and the Rake.
Until the end of the 19th century, the only access was the steep “chemin de la cheminée”, passable only on foot. In 1902, the end of the construction of the “la Roche” motor road, passing through the village of La Garde, finally allowed the town to be opened up. In the 1930s, the construction of the Chambon dam allowed a significant improvement in living conditions. The construction of the Freney road in the 60s, then of the Orgières ski resort in the 70s, allowed tourism to flourish.
Today, Auris-en-Oisans offers the friendliness and security of a family resort on a human scale while having the advantage of being connected by chairlift to Alpe d'Huez, thus forming part of its large ski area. The commune has preserved in its hamlets the charm of the traditional atmospheres of yesteryear.
