A passionate farmer on a farm like no other

Arriving in Oisans, the traveler goes up the long Romanche valley, keeping an eye out for the first peaks. Narrow and protective, the valley seems to suddenly open up onto the Grandes Rousses massif, at the entrance to the Romanche plain. The gaze is captivated, the landscape welcomes you. The wild Oisans is all around, but not only at altitude, because, along the left side of the road, an atypical farm is hidden... with a passionate and fascinating farmer.

Didier created the bison farm on a site that the ancients called "Little Siberia", because of the cumulative action of the cold wind and the humidity of the watercourses which
surround it. His bison have found living conditions there close to those of their homeland, the vast Canadian plains.

Didier's farm is a wild space, whose raw beauty he reveals after years of development for his animals. From his first encounter with a herd of bison, he knew he had found his farm project to combine the production of quality meat with tourist reception.

But at the bison farm, there are not only bison...

There is also a flock of sheep with their backs laden with wool, a pack of dogs always listening to their master, a group of llamas who do as they please, horses, including those of Anna his daughter, and cats, spectators of this joyful menagerie. Everyone has a name and a story.

But above all, there is Didier. A farmer who, by creating his farm, has found more than a job, he truly embodies the place, wearing his cowboy hat.

Driven by a sincere passion, he created a play area around the imagination of cowboys and Indians. He built a teepee camp, with totem poles and Indian sculptures on one side, and a saloon with a dungeon on the other; a paradise for children's birthdays!

A dive into Didier's world is a fascinating journey. He knows how to tell his animals, how he takes care of the "girls", the bison, how he transhumes on foot with his sheep to the mountain pastures, the life of "big father" his breeding bison who, soon to retire, will have to be replaced... A heartbreak.

Warm, devoted, talkative, Didier is without a doubt the most endearing character on the Bison farm. Besides, as a little girl said: it should be called

“Happy Animal Farm!”

Arriving in the winter morning mist, everything seemed frozen by the cold in a refreshing calm. Throughout the visit, the sun illuminated the snowy landscapes and Didier warmed the childlike souls of his visitors. The cowboy farmer shares with a benevolent nature his passion for animals and Oisans, aboard his "agricultural carriage".
This is a meeting as we like them, generous, instructive and tinged with humor.
