De La Grave au Col de l'Échelle
This route will take you to discover the beautiful Clarée Valley before climbing the Col de l'Echelle. Once you reach the top, push on to the end of the plateau to enjoy the view of Italy.
Detailed itinerary:
– At the exit of the car park, turn right towards Briançon on the RD 1091. Cross the village of La Grave.
– At the exit of La Grave, cross the Serre du coin Tunnel then the Ardoisières tunnel (be careful, the tunnels are poorly lit). Continue on the RD 1091.
– Go around the village of Villar d'Arène and continue towards Briançon and the Col de Lautaret.
– At the Lautaret pass, go back down the Serre Chevalier valley to Briançon, staying on the RD 1091.
– Arriving in Briançon, after the town entrance sign, pass the medical center then take the first road on the left to join the Grenoble road.
– Go up the Grenoble road to the Champs de Mars roundabout. At the roundabout, take the 4th exit on the left towards Montgenèvre, to join the RN 94.
– At the exit of Briançon, continue on the RN 94 until the crossroads of La Vachette.
– At the crossroads, turn left towards Névache/Vallée de la Clarée. Enter the village of La Vachette and go up the entire Clarée valley to Névache (about 10 km)
– Shortly before arriving at Névache, turn right towards the Col de l'Echelle and start the climb.
– Once you reach the top, continue straight on and stop just before the descent to Italy.
– The return to La Grave is done by the same path.
