GR®54 – Tour de l'Oisans et des Ecrins depuis La Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar, par le GR®54B et le GR®54C

La Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar
Between Vallouise and the Col de l'Aup Martin, the floods of September 2024 washed away large sections of the road leading to the Entre les Aigues site, in the Onde Valley. Work is underway to restore pedestrian access. Until further notice, the
Departing from La Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar, the Tour de l'Oisans et des Écrins begins gently along the Séveraisse River before crossing the southern slope of the Pic des Souffles, offering breathtaking views of the Valgaudemar Valley. The next day's stage involves crossing the impressive Col de la Vaurze. Equally impressive is the descent to the wild Valjouffrey. The very green Col de Côte Belle leads to the village of Valsenestre, in the Béranger Valley. This end of the stage is a welcome break before setting off again on Variant B of the GR®54, which is the longest stage of the route in terms of duration and one of the most difficult due to the significant elevation changes. The variant, via the Col de la Romeïou, passes along several lakes, including one of the most emblematic places on the Oisans side of the Écrins: Lake Lauvitel (1530 m above sea level). The next stage then approaches the famous resort of Les Deux Alpes on both slopes (Vénosc and Mont-de-Lans) connected by variant C of the GR®54, and reaches the pretty village of Mizoen. The rest climbs in altitude on the mountainside, along the large Chambon lake located below, to reach the refuges at the foot of the Emparis plateau. Above, the Souchet pass offers a five-star view of the Meije. Nearly 1000 meters of negative elevation gain allow you to reach La Grave. Here you must continue along the Romanche to its sources on the Villar d'Arène mountain pasture. Arriving at the Col d'Arsine, the spectacle is striking. The high mountain world invites you to visit the glacial lakes of Arsine before beginning a long descent along the Petit Tabuc torrent to the Guisane valley and Monêtier-les-Bains. Objective: La Vallouise via the Col de l'Eychauda and the peaceful chalets of Chambran. Eight kilometers of passable road along the Onde torrent and here is the Jas Lacroix mountain pasture. Crossing the Col de l'Aup Martin, the highest of the entire route, is always a highlight of the adventure, and the descent to the Pré de la Chaumette is just as sporty. To reach the Vallonpierre lake, no fewer than three passes cut into the schist must be negotiated with caution. The last stage consists of a long descent into the Valgaudemar valley where the path joins La Chapelle en Valgaudemar to close the GR®.
