At an altitude of 3200m, buried in the notches of the Girose glacier, the ice cave of La Grave has been completely renovated. Come visit and be amazed by the softness of the ice sculptures...
Located 10 minutes walk from the arrival of the Glaciers de la cable car Meije, it's a wonderful discovery for everyone. The ice cave is only open in the summer. In fact, the cave is under meters of snow during the winter.
It descends 24 m per year and arrives on a flat part of the glacier which puts it in compression: the galleries close, the sculptures deform and the cave tends to tilt which reduces the slope inside limiting the evacuation of water which seeps through the crevasses. Working with nature requires adaptation!
