La boucle de Sarenne (Circuit n°8)
Reaching Alpe d'Huez means taking the famous 21 bends, hairpins known to cyclists from all over the world. By car, the ascent is less problematic and you will certainly reach the top of the station cooler!
Departing from Bourg d'Oisans, this circuit is approximately 47 km round trip.
This route will first take you to the centre of the resort to enter the ↘Huez and Oisans Museum. Two exhibitions await you there. The first reveals all aspects of the lives of the inhabitants of Brandes, a small mining town established on a silver mine exploited from the middle of the 35th to the middle of the XNUMXth century for the benefit of the Dauphin, Lord of Dauphiné. The museum presents the results of archaeological excavations carried out on this site for XNUMX years. The second exhibition “People from here, living in Oisans in the past”, through strong themes, will guide you on a journey that will take you into the daily life of the inhabitants of Oisans, from birth to death: rites and beliefs, peddling, breeding, wakes, etc. ... everything that forms the basis of a mountain society. New exhibition: “There will be sport” or the birth of Alpe d'Huez as a sports resort.
A stone's throw from the museum, next to the altiport, you can discover the ↘Brandes silver mine, a unique archaeological site in Europe. Visits
commented tours are organized twice a week. Then take a step up to ↘col de Sarenne for a sumptuous view of the Emparis plateau.
Once you have passed the pass, you are in the Ferrand valley and its string of villages: Clavans-en-Haut-Oisans, Besse-in-Oisans, Mizoën. Enough to wear out your soles as you stroll peacefully through the streets of these pretty villages.
Before reaching Bourg-d'Oisans, stop on the way at Freney-d'Oisans. A member of the “Route des Savoir-Faire de l'Oisans” opens his door to you for a presentation of his know-how: Gilles, a passionate beekeeper, offers you
a “Bee Safari”, an adventure from hive to hive dressed as a beekeeper (by appointment). Discover his farm ↘ “Un Ecrin de miel” and its tasty products: mountain honey and other honeys produced in the region, propolis, gingerbread, nougats…
