Lac et refuge du Goléon
With an incredible view of the massif of the Meije, the hike to Lake Goléon is magnificent. Wild fauna and alpine flora will await you at the summit!
In addition to offering an unforgettable view of the peaks of the Meije, the Goléon lake is located at the beginning of a wide grassy valley which extends to the foot of the Aiguille du Goléon and the Aiguille Méridionale d'Arves. The possibility of pushing beyond the lake therefore makes this route flexible according to the fitness and curiosity of each person.
ROUTE
Follow the track and cross the very beautiful hamlet of Valfroide: the slate roofs are still legion there. Then go up the path which runs along the Maurian torrent on its right bank. We begin by crossing a large field with a gentle slope, then the inclination of the glacial lock increases regularly and ends up forcing the track to continue in zigzags. By going around a few rocky bars, we reach the top of the lock which marks the beginning of the valley mountain huting the lake as well as the Goléon refuge. If you feel like it, you can extend your walk by following the lake on the left side, a grandiose panorama guaranteed!
The descent is via the same route.
