Lacs d'Arsine par le sentier des Crevasses
The first part offers very beautiful views of the valley, the massif of the Meije and glaciers. Then, after a pleasant climb through the mountain pastures, the moraines and the lake surrounded by glaciers will allow you to see the high mountains up close.
Take the Crevasses interpretation trail (developed by the Ecrins National Park with thematic panels) and continue with a long crossing on the mountainside. A good path allows you to cross the marl valley of the Colombier stream.
Reach a fork (2055 m) where you join the GR54. Continue straight ahead, leaving a small weather station on the right hand side. At the next nearby fork, ignore the path on the right which goes up to the refuge to continue the climb on the GR 54. The path rises into the mountain pastures and crosses a wide valley facing the Agneaux massif. Beautiful views of the Grande Ruine and the Plate des Agneaux glacier, but also Roche Faurio, Pic Gaspard….
Continue climbing the grassy slope and reach the Col d'Arsine (2340 m). At the pass, take a path to the right winding through the grassy basin dotted with large boulders and join a transverse path which climbs up the frontal moraine of the Arsine glacier behind which the lakes of the Arsine glacier (2458 m) are hidden.
The milky appearance of the waters comes from their high load of sandy and silt particles.
Return by the same route.
YOU HIKE IN THE HEART OF THE ECRINS NATIONAL PARK. The Écrins massif is an exceptional space, open to all, whose natural, cultural and landscape heritage is rare.
