ITINERARY :
This hike has it all: a clear view of the peaks with a route along the mountainside, a variety of natural environments to cross. Start from the authentic village of Villard-Reculas and its small lake to find you in the heart of the international resort of Alpe d'Huez.
From the shopping square, at the entrance to the village, follow the Route des Alpages which goes up to the left. Continue straight on at the bend along Rue Nouvelle which turns into a path at the very end. The latter joins the Chemin de Pierre Ronde which goes off to the left, it goes up into the mountain pastures to the small lake of Langaret.
Pass to the right of the lake, and after a short break on its banks continue on the path which climbs to the right into the mountain pastures. You are on the panoramic path.
The route climbs gradually across to the ridge. Alpe d'Huez is revealed and the view, still panoramic, changes to open onto the Grandes Rousses. Then the path descends gently to the resort, following the historic Canal des Sarrazins which still feeds Villard-Reculas in water.
After a short trip to Alpe d'Huez (go down the road and go back up a little further to the left to cross the old Alpe), take the same route in the other direction and enjoy the Langaret lake to dip your feet in on the way back!
TO SEE ON THE ROUTE:
– the view, the view, the view!
– the village of Villard-Reculas and its mountain pastures
– the Saracens canal

– the Alpe d'Huez resort and especially the old Alpe district
