Le Col Blanc – n°9 – Noir
This is the most beautiful and the most demanding: 50 kilometers for 3000 meters of elevation!!…. "Small calves" or "Small appetites" need not apply!!
Route No. 9 from the Oisans Trail Station – Villard Reculas reception base
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Departure / Arrival: Villard Reculas
Duration: 6h30 to 10h
Distance: 50 km
Maximum altitude: 2700 m
Minimum altitude: 780 m
Positive elevation: 3440 m
ROUTE
Turn right when leaving the Villard Reculas Tourist Office and then continue along the first path on the left. The descent that awaits you via the Fontaine de l'Ours is very technical, in the undergrowth and often wet. You share the trails throughout this first part with route No. 1 and with the Megavalanche for a small part (be careful during the week, at the beginning of July, of this famous downhill mountain bike competition). Remember to fill up with water when crossing Allemond, this will be very useful to you for the rest of the course.
You will then come across the Verney dam, a reservoir and an integral part of the Grand Maison hydroelectric plant. At the end of the dam, turn right towards Verney and then you will start the most difficult but also wildest part of the route. Passing through Pourchery, a hamlet of Vaujany, you take the chimney path which takes you to Vaujany to then head towards Col du Couard via the reception base located in La Villette. When you reach the top of the pass, look up; you will then see the cable car Vaujany located on the Dôme des Petites Rousses this is where the climb ends. You are above 2 meters, the yellow markings of the hiking trails allow you to follow the path. Then there are the lakes of Jasse, Balme Rousse, Fare with the Rajon cabin and finally that of Milieu which takes you to the Col Blanc and its lunar landscape where you will very often still find snow late in the season. The 000×4 track allows you to access the Lac Blanc of a pure color that you will cross to reach the Combe Charbonnière, home to many marmots. The descent is very technical before being able to breathe a little at the Mine de l'Herpie then the return by the Rampe des Mules towards Alpe d'Huez by the altiport. During the crossing of the resort be attentive to the vehicles but also to the markings to access the panoramic path which takes you back to Villard Reculas.
THE “LITTLE EXTRA”: The Rajon Cabin
Well known to hikers, the Lac de la Fare and its Rajon cabin were the site of a terrible episode of the 2nd World War. The sign on the cabin reminds you of this.
Another access to this lake is possible via the Alpette, a possible family walk.
