Le lac du Goléon depuis les Terrasses
A varied panoramic route, offering the hiker sumptuous views of the queen Meije.
In the hamlet of Terrasses, opposite the church, take a concrete path on the right (GR signage, follow the Chazelet). The path leads to a hairpin bend on the RD 33. Follow the departmental road upwards for a few meters and take a concrete path on the right which leads to an isolated house. Go around the house upstream and follow this path until you reach the departmental road at the Ste Anne oratory.
Cross the road and take the hiking trail (direction Les Clôts). The path climbs quickly and offers a panoramic view of the Chazelet and the Pic du Mas de la Grave.
At the next crossroads, you join the Paul-Louis Rousset trail, follow Les Clôts. The path becomes a narrow path which crosses, at level, the mountain pastures and a schist area equipped with cables.
When you arrive at Les Clôts, enter the hamlet and take the path that rises on the left towards Celle des Juges.
After a steep climb you arrive at the Côte Belle crossroads – 1983 m – follow the narrow path towards La Celle des Juges.
At an altitude of 1997 m, the hiker arrives at a discreet crossroads without a sign, with a cairn and a red marker that sends to the left. Do not follow this marker, continue straight. About thirty meters further, there is a yellow sign indicating La celle des Juges.
The path comes up against the enclosure of a sheepfold that you have to go around from above (there is no real marked path). After the sheepfold, find the path that goes down towards a low wall towards the buildings of Celle des Juges. Pass between the houses and gardens and take the rapid descent that leads to Les Hières (be careful, descent with steep and narrow passages, signage made of wooden stakes) POINT N° 43.
At Hières, follow the track towards Valfroide. The track crosses the different hamlets of Valfroide.
After 2,5 km, after going around the hamlet of Plot, the track becomes a path and enters the valley that leads to the Goléon refuge. After crossing grazed meadows, the path rises rapidly (north-east direction) in terrain alternating between grassy areas and scree until reaching the refuge and the lake.
