Le plateau du Taillefer
This fragment of Lapland in the heart of the Alps presents an environment of great diversity.
From the car park, follow the dirt track which runs alongside a vast valley cut into the grey and shiny schists for a while. Take the path for 800 m then at the crossroads "L'airette".
Take the path on the right towards "refuge du Taillefer", this path rises gently on a rocky, half-wooded sunny side. After a steep climb, you arrive at the "La Buffe" crossroads - 1 m. Take the direction "refuge du Taillefer". The path passes under the imposing Carrelet building then crosses at level to the refuge.
From the refuge, head towards Pas de l'Envious. Cross the Echaillon stream (by ford) and climb slowly to Pas de l'Envious (2 m).
Take the path that goes down towards the lakes plateau (south).
At an altitude of 2 m, join the path that comes from Basse Montagne. Turn southwest and go along the Vache and Agneau lakes and the Noir lake. Climb up sharply to a small pass then switch towards the Fourchu lake.
The return is by the same path as the ascent.
