Le sommet du Pic du Mas de la Grave

La Grave
An essential objective for seasoned hikers staying in the valley, the Pic du Mas de la Grave (3020 m) opens up to them after going up the Buffe valley.
From the car park, go down towards the village along the car park.

At the first junction, do not go up into the village but take a hairpin bend to the right towards the foot of the ski lifts.
Take the GR 54 on the right. At the next junction, leave the GR and stay on the side (do not go down towards the torrent). Continue on the wide track.
At the next junction, turn right towards the three hamlets of Rivets. Cross them and reach the Croix de Tuf (1879 m). Continue on the good track which follows the valley to reach the very bottom of the hut of La Buffe (2005 m) located at the foot of the Pic du Mas de La Grave (It is possible to spend the night at the refuge to break up the long climb to the Peak). Cross the small stream on the left then go back up the path.
Pass a small rocky bar and just after, do not turn left but continue towards the North on the path which leads to an immense cairn (2351 m).
From this point, the path narrows, runs along a schist ravine and crosses short meadows to reach scree. Cross a few small rocky ledges to reach the ridge (2979 m). Follow it (aerial) to the summit (3020 m).
The return is made by the same path until a Ford downstream from the Pic du Mas de refuge La Grave.
Turn right, go up then return by the path on the right bank to the station, then return to the car park.
