Montée au glacier Lombard depuis le lac du Goléon

La Grave
Near Lac du Goléon is a welcoming and comfortable refuge.
It is both a hiking objective and an ideal stopover on the route to the Goléon summit.
The route described will take you from the refuge to the foot of the small glacier. Well-equipped mountaineers may decide to reach the summit itself by crossing the glacier (with few crevasses) then climbing the easy and aerial north ridge of the Aiguille du Goléon (alt. 3427m).

From the refuge, reached the day before from Valfroide or by route No. 13, go down diagonally towards Lac du Goléon, and follow the latter to its northern end.

Continue to climb gently up the valley, pass near the old refuge leaning against its rock (Carraud refuge) and follow the path which goes up the valley on its left side. Stay permanently on the left of the torrent (right bank).

At the start of the season we quickly find snow in this place; go up these snow slopes, or the scree slopes, depending on the conditions, to arrive on a flat area at the foot of the Lombard glacier dominated by the Aiguille du Goléon.

⚠️ From this point only well-equipped mountaineers (rope, ice axe, crampons) can decide to go up the glacier towards the pass (alt.3236m) located south of Bec de Grenier. They will follow the entire North-West ridge, sometimes aerial (a few steps of climbing) while remaining as close as possible to the ridge (do not engage on the slopes)

The return will take place via the same route.

⚠️ It is best to undertake this climb at the start of the season when the snow is still present and covers the scree.
