Pique-nique sur les hauteurs
Ideas for picnics at altitude with a view that will make you stay well after your snack, pastures for somersaults in the lush grass, an altitude sun to make you digest the good products of Oisans.
Bring yourself some good bread, goat cheese from the market and a blueberry tart!
1 – To the col du Sabot, 2 m:
This old pass which once allowed people to go to Savoy (in patois, Sabot, “Sabaudia” means Savoy) is today abandoned for its big brother the Croix de Fer. Unforgettable view of the entire Grandes Rousses massif. You can stop at the village of Vaujany to visit the Maison de la Faune and the Espace Patrimoine (information on page 14), then swim in the Espace Loisirs swimming pool or enjoy the brand new ice rink or bowling alley.
2 – To the col de Sarenne, 1 m:
From the Sarenne Valley to the Ferrand Valley, the pass covers a whole part of Oisans. The road is beautiful. The view from the pass is majestic. What are we waiting for? Marmots and chamois galore for wildlife lovers, orange lilies and gentians for flora lovers. And for amateur crystal hunters, a few crystals are right at home here... To enhance your picnic, stop off at the sheepfold of col de SarenneYou will enjoy fresh or mature goat cheeses.
3 – On the Pic Blanc, 3 m:
Take your bag to over 3 m to enjoy the breathtaking view from the terrace of the Pic Blanc, this will take you to the heights! The 360° panorama is rated 3 stars in the Michelin guide. On a clear day, you can see up to 1/5 of France. Access via the ski lifts from Alpe d'Huez.
4 – On the Emparis plateau:
The vast Emparis alpine plateau with its balcony resolutely facing La Meije is certainly one of the most beautiful picnic tables in the world! This place is also a listed site. Only the birdsong and the persistent chewing of thousands of sheep will disturb the tranquility of this haven of peace conducive to endless naps.
5 – On the road to Auris en Oisans:
Stop 1 km before the Auris-en-Oisans resort and park at the junction of the pastoral track. A bench awaits you next to the small chapel overlooking the road. The view of the glaciers of La Meije and Les 2 Alpes is superb!
6 – On the Chazelet road, 1 m:
From the village of La Grave, take the RD 33 towards Chazelet, cross Ventelon (from the Ventelon chapel, you can discover another view of the Meije) and the Terraces then to the left, in a bend you discover the splendid viewpoint on the massif of the Meije from the Chazelet oratory, rated 3 stars in the Michelin Green Guide. On your right, at 1 m, the new Portes orientation table has been installed. Continue to the village of Chazelet, renowned for its granaries, chard, oven, and sundials. On Mondays and Fridays, between 834 p.m. and 15 p.m., come and listen to the old schoolteacher tell you the story of village life.
