Refuge de la Fare au départ de la station d'Oz
Several routes provide access to the refuge as soon as the snow melts. You can leave from Oz station, but be aware that in July and August the ski lifts make it easier for you to reach the Alpette plateau.
The 3 hikes, more or less long depending on the starting point, will all take you to Alpette where a single path winds through scree and rocks in a mineral atmosphere typical of Oisans.
In June and September, when the ski lifts are closed, you will have the choice between a departure from Oz-en-Oisans, a departure from Vaujany (from La Villette via the Chemin des Jasses) or from Alpe d'Huez (from Lake Besson with the crossing of the lakes).
In July and August: take advantage of the Alpette gondola lift from Oz-en-Oisans to climb up to the Alpette at an altitude of 2050 m. There will only be 280 m of altitude difference left to climb.

ROUTE FROM OZ STATION
From the Tourist Office, follow the path towards Le Plan du Cerf (passing through the Parc de Loisirs en Forêt at the top of the resort). At the crossroads of Le Plan du Cerf, take the path that goes up towards l'Alpette. Path between forest and alpine meadows. From l'Alpette (2050 m) go under the cable car that goes up to the Dôme des Rousses. The path continues behind the restaurant “La Grange”. It crosses a scree area and passages sometimes equipped with cables are quite steep up to the refuge. Once there, you can also continue to Lac de la Fare, 340 m higher.
Perched in the mountain pastures at an altitude of 2280 m facing the Belledonne massif, this small 12-bed refuge welcomes passing hikers and mountaineers who have come to discover the mid- and high-mountain routes in the surrounding area, between lakes and peaks, in a warm setting.
TO HAVE
The plateau of the lower lakes (Lakes Besson, Faucille and Lamat), with its alpine atmosphere, and the plateau of the upper lakes (Lakes du Milieu, de la Fare, de la Balme and de la Jasse) with its high mountain atmosphere.
TO KNOW
You are on a historic site of the resistance! The Maquis de l'Oisans had to move its wounded, treated in an improvised hospital in a hotel in Alpe d'Huez, in front of the advancing Germans. They left on August 11, 1944, and were in Alpette 3 days later. After reaching the refuge of La Fare then the Rajon cabin on the edge of the lake of the same name, they were able to reach the valley thanks to the liberation of Grenoble by the Americans.
