Sentier Paul-Louis Rousset
This loop, which allows you to discover almost all of the villages and hamlets in the canton, was named in homage to Father Paul Louis Rousset, a guide and great mountaineer. It is a must for lovers of the region.
Abbot Paul Louis Rousset, a guide and great mountaineer, wrote numerous reference works on the region. His book "Au Pays de la Meije » which reads like a novel, tells the history of the country since prehistory.
From the Tourist Office of La Grave (1470 m) take the departmental road for a few meters then go down to the left just after the fountain towards Romanche. Cross it then take the path which goes up to the left towards Villar d'Arène.
The path first climbs in bends and follows the GR 54 of the Tour de l'Oisans in its entirety. Follow it along the Romanche and cross it at the Pont des Brebis, near the Pied du Col climbing site.
Join the hamlet of Pied du Col then take a good track on the left towards Les Cours. Cross the departmental road then take the good path on the right 20 m which leads to Les Cours.
When you reach the hamlet fountain, turn right and then 20 m further on turn right again. At the end of the hamlet, take the path that goes up to the left towards small groves.
Cut across the dirt track coming from the lake car park and take the path opposite. This will take you to Lac du Pontet (1985 m) and go around it on the left.
Pass by a water intake and now follow the small path which will take you along the mountainside towards the Col de l'Aiguillon.
Then take the path that goes down towards Valfroide, cross the Maurian torrent then take the good track on the left that leads to Les Hières.
Just before entering the village, take the small path on the right which goes up towards Celle des Juges, cross this hamlet of a few houses and continue on the path towards an isolated farm.
Pass nearby then follow the horizontal path which will take you to the hamlet of Clots by a short descent. At the top of Clots, turn right and reach the slate quarries which you cross (cable).
When you reach the large track under the forest, take it on the left, reach the orientation table then the oratory at road level. Take this road on the right, cross the Chazelet then arrive at the bottom of the village, turn left to take the alley (rue de Serre) which goes around the village to the south. You thus reach the bottom of the village (place called Pralong) then continuing to the small chapel of Notre-Dame de Bon Repos which overlooks the waterfall of the Saut de la Pucelle.
Go down in bends towards Les Fréaux, cross the departmental road then the village. Cross the Romanche and complete the route by following the small road which runs alongside the Romanche; arriving at the bridge located under La Grave, go back up to the village to reach your starting point.
