Ski de randonnée depuis à l'Alpe d'Huez
To try ski touring from theAlpe d'Huez, here is a suggestion for an easy-to-access and, above all, magnificent discovery route. The slopes around the Col de Cluy are welcoming and well-exposed.
SUGGESTED HIKE on the GRANDES ROUSSES massif
> Discovery itinerary for the day:
– La Grande Buffe (2164 m) + 500 m
The summit of the Grande Buffe dominates the Col de Cluy and offers its volcanic shape to those who want to reach its summit. First join the Gorges de Sarenne from the Bergers sector, put on your skins and go back up either due north or join the Col de Cluy then climb the western slopes to the summit.
Possibility of then joining the Croix de Cassini.
– The Cassini Cross (2373 m) + 700 m
The summit of the Croix de Cassini can be reached from the Gorges de Sarenne or by crossing from the summit of the Grande Buffe. The northern slopes are magnificent to ski on the descent and the 360° view from the summit is impressive.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
> Where to get supplies: All shops in the resort.
> Where to sleep: Numerous possibilities in the resort.
BIG ROUSSES SECTOR
This “little” part of the Grandes Rousses is one of the “big ones” for discovering ski touring. Around the Signal de l’Homme, the col de Sarenne or on the Emparis plateau: sun, panorama and gentle slopes. A large resort, a more intimate one or a mountain village: as many starting points as there are tastes in nature!
Les Grandes Rousses: This massif, oriented north/south, has as its highest point the Pic Bayle at 3465 m, conquered in 1870 by Father Bayle, an abbot of Oz-en-Oisans who spent, it is said, more time hanging on a rock than with his flock.
This crystalline massif of gneiss, schist and granite has caused small rushes for gold, silver or crystal, underground treasures hidden in mines scattered on all the slopes. The archaeological site of Brandes, a stone's throw from Alpe d'Huez, was one of the first sites in history where silver was extracted on an almost industrial scale. Later, in 2, coal was transported into the valley, using one of the longest cable cars in the history of cable transport.
Les Rousses overlooks Isère, Hautes-Alpes and Savoie and offers a wide variety of ski touring routes.
