Clavans-en-Haut-Oisans

Ski de randonnée depuis Clavans le Haut

The Ferrand Valley is a "good plan" for ski touring: you have access to the Emparis plateau as well as the Grandes Rousses massif! Going to the Ferrand Valley for a beautiful day of ski touring is always a guarantee of happiness.
The village of Clavans le Haut is the end of the road for this Ferrand valley, from the Latin “ferus” which means wild. Following this valley will take you to Maurienne if you feel like it or to the foothills of the Grandes Rousses.

HIKING SUGGESTIONS
> “Discovery” day trips
– La Grande Buffe and Croix de Cassini (2164 m and 2373 m) + 980 m
The Cassini Cross, named after the famous cartographer, can be reached from Clavans via the col de SarenneFrom there, you can take the ridge to the summit or descend to the Sarenne bridge and climb the beautiful slope to the Grange Pellorce pass, then the summit. Continue with the summit of the Grande Buffe to the west.
- Col de Sarenne (1999 m) + 600 m
Discovery route to the col de SarenneYou can follow the summer road or climb the east-facing slopes to the pass. You can eat or have a drink at the eponymous refuge.
> “Classic” day trip itinerary
– The Col de la Valette (2668 m) + 900 m
Not much difference in altitude but long for this route which goes peacefully up the valley. Small technical passage (depending on snow conditions) at the Ferrand waterfall, then steeper slope at the end of the route.
> “Steep slopes” and “technical” day itinerary
– Peaks of the Grand Sauvage (3217 m) + 1800 m
The Grand Sauvage is located just east of the Etendard. Its summit is reached via the south couloir, going around the Quirlies lake. It can also be done in a loop via the Quirlies pass and going back up the north face to ski the south couloir. A tough route on the way up as well as the way down.

EMPARIS PLATEAU SECTOR
This “little” part of the Grandes Rousses is one of the “big ones” for discovering ski touring. Around the Signal de l’Homme, the col de Sarenne or on the Emparis plateau: sun, panorama and gentle slopes. A large resort, a more intimate one or a mountain village: as many starting points as there are tastes in nature!
The Emparis Plateau: this plateau with the appearance of arctic tundra, located on the
Grandes Rousses, facing the Écrins massif, is a unique place in Oisans and even in Europe since it is home to remarkable wetlands. It is a peat bog soil that contrasts with the harsh minerality of Oisans and is part of the Natura 2000 biodiversity preservation network. The view from the Souchet pass over the Meije and the Rake is striking, perhaps one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Alps. The few access points on either side have allowed the preservation of a wild, magnificent and little-visited area.
