Tour des lacs du plateau d'Emparis depuis Besse-en-Oisans
On this 1-meter hike, discover the endless meadows of the Plateau d'Emparis, adorned with marshes, lakes, and flowers of all colors. All with panoramic views of the Meije, the Grandes Rousses and the Aiguilles d’Arves!

ROUTE
The departure point is located at the Beyet car park at the exit of the village of Besse.
Walk straight for about 2km to the municipal bivouac area of Gay. Pass in front of the bivouac area, take the track, then take the path that goes up to your left. The GR54 signs indicate that you are on the right track. Allow about 2h30 to climb to the Col Saint George (700 meters of altitude difference).
Once at the Col Saint George, the climb gives way to a gradual descent to the centre of the Plateau (“Plateau d'Emparis” on the yellow signs) for around 2 km. You will then find yourself in meadows as far as the eye can see, looking like Mongolian steppes.
Once you reach the centre of the Emparis plateau, head back up towards the Col du Souchet.
Once at the Col du Souchet, exit the GR to head towards the lakes (first Lac Lérié).
After the Black Lake, reach the center of the Plateau d'Emparis then return to Besse by the GR.
