Tour du plateau d'Emparis
Hike through the mountain pastures of the Emparis plateau, facing the Meije and at the Pic du Mas de la Grave.
From the car park, go down towards the village.
At the first junction, turn right towards the bottom of the village.
At the second junction, do not go up into the village but take a hairpin bend to the right towards the foot of the ski lifts.
At the third junction, stay on the side (do not go down towards the torrent). Continue on the wide track.
At the next junction, turn right towards the three hamlets of Rivets. Cross them and reach the Tuf cross (1901 m). At the cross, continue straight. At the Buffe barracks (2005 m), cross the small stream on the left then go back up the path.
Pass a small rocky bar and just after turn sharply to the left going up wide grassy slopes, leaving on the right the Chemin d'Avant path nr° 10 which leads to the Pic du Mas de la Grave. Path not very marked /!\
At the top of this slope, cross the small stream and take the path to the left which follows the valley to the Rif Tort chalet.
Join the GR54 at the Col St-Georges. Note: from the Col du Souchet it is possible to do a loop of about 1 hour, passing by the Lac Noir then the Lac Lérié, (yellow markings) before joining the GR00 under the Col du Souchet.
At the benches, on the descent towards Chazelet, turn left towards Clos Raffin then return by the same path to the Chazelet station.
