ITINERARY:
From the Bourg-d'Oisans tourist office, follow the road towards Alpe d'Huez. After the bridge over the Romanche and just before the roundabout, take the pedestrian crossing on your left. It will take you to the Alpe d'Huez road, avoiding crossing the roundabout.

Follow the road, and when you reach the “A la rencontre du Soleil” campsite, turn left towards Bassey/les Essoulieux.

Walk along this small country road that runs alongside the forest and crosses fields and meadows before arriving at the hamlet of Essoulieux. Keep your eyes peeled: deer, foxes, squirrels are often visible here and on the grassy slopes of the cliffs, you might be able to see chamois (with binoculars).

In Essoulieux, continue straight towards the hamlet of Bassey, pass the Saint Sauveur chapel and then further on, the bread oven which is on your right and continue on the forest track. Shaded, this part is a haven of peace and freshness on hot sunny days. Follow the track, cross the ford, and at the intersection turn left (towards Bourg d4oisans la Lignarre, the 3 bridges) on the small bridge which spans the Sarenne, then take the second bridge crossing the Romanche and finally the third above the Rive, before turning immediately right.

Walk along this beautiful Green Way – shared space for pedestrians, bikes, horses – with the Romanche on your right. The forest, the presence of water, make this walk an ideal place to recharge your batteries or to “unwind” after a sporty day in the mountains.

After the fourth bridge – this time spanning the Lignarre – turn left towards La Paute and follow the Voie Verte on the dike, with the Lignarre on your left. Take the small tunnel which passes under the road and allows you to come out at the end of the hamlet of La Paute, at the Impasse du Pont.

At the intersection, turn left, join and follow the road which goes down from the col d’Ornon, towards Bourg d'Oisans. Just before reaching the D 1091, on the bend, take the forest path on your right towards Ornon and immediately take the left path towards Bourg d'Oisans.

The forest path now runs along the cliff (on the right) and the RD 1091 (on the left), passing behind the ZA du Ras, then joining the road to Morlière. Continue straight on until the bend, you then leave the road (which turns left) to follow the track that passes in front of the bike park (on your right), then you cross the dry torrent on your left to finally find the R. Asseh Guéraud road which serves the Bourg d'Oisans gymnasium.

Go down the street, turn right and continue down Rue Saint-Antoine to the Maison du Parc des Ecrins / cinema. Then go along the building on the right and turn left into Rue de Gambetta, then right into Avenue de la République which you follow to reach your starting point.

If the door is open, take a quick peek inside the friendly St Sauveur chapel.
