history
Le col du Sabot was for centuries the gateway to France from Savoy. Sabot comes from Sabaudia, Savoy in patois. This role of border, with customs posts, ended in 1850 with the annexation of Savoy to France. The development of the road network with the democratization of the car isolated this road in favor of the current road which joins the col du Glandon and Croix de Fer by the RiverAllemond.
