Refuge Adèle Planchard

Villar-d'Arêne
– Mountain hut
Adèle Planchard bequeathed her fortune to build the refuge punctuating the ascent route of the Grande Ruine. Despite its “high mountain” environment, its long access walk remains simple and superb, accessible to any hiker...or almost!
The refuge is the second highest perched in the Ecrins massif.
Located in the Massif des Ecrins, Grande Ruine group in Briançonnais, this refuge is a belvedere on the Barre des Ecrins. When you arrive there, you will discover the world of the high mountains.
From the refuge, you will have a very beautiful view of the enfilade of the Summit of Pic de Neige Cordier up to La Roche Méane which peaks at 3765 m (Pointe Breevort).
Access from the foot of the pass (5 hours) on a marked trail. In summer, no technical equipment is required.

In spring the refuge is also kept for the ski touring season, as the first stage of the Tour de la Meije, or for the ascent of the Great Ruin!

From Pont d'Arsine, in the commune of Villar-d'Arêne, follow the marked path that goes up the course of the Romanche on the right bank. It winds through the Plan de l'Alpe to the sources of the Romanche and then joins the moraine of the Glacier de la Plate des Agneaux. It leaves the moraine to gain height at Pierre à Jules. The refuge then appears above you. This hike through the mountain pastures first and then in the high mountains can be done without technical equipment once the snowfields have melted. It takes about 5 to 6 hours of walking.
