Refuge de l'Aigle
Perched at 3450 m above the Romanche valley, the Aigle refuge clings to the Aigle rock, in one of the most extraordinary sites in Oisans, very close to the northern slope of the Meije.
The Eagle refuge is a warm refuge, in symbiosis with its environment. Béatrice and Florent, guardians of this mountain lighthouse, will welcome you warmly.
First built in 1913, after many twists and turns, it was built for a very specific purpose: to accommodate the roped parties completing the crossing of the Meije. From the refuge many routes are possible: Meije Eastern, Finger of God, Corridors corridor, Gravelotte corridor…
But that was before... today the Aigle refuge has been completely rebuilt and has a capacity of 30 beds.
In the heart of the Ecrins National Park, in the commune of La Grave, at an altitude of 3450 m, “l’Aigle” has belonged to the very exclusive club of legendary refuges for over a century.
L'Aigle is one of the oldest refuges built by the French Federation of Alpine and Mountain Clubs (FFCAM) and managed by the French Alpine Club of Briançon.
It holds an exceptional place in the history of French mountaineering and reminds experienced and passionate mountaineers of the footsteps of Pierre Gaspard, winner of the Meije and its edges in 1877.
A night at the Aigle is synonymous with a powerful and moving experience.
