Refuge du Pic du Mas de la Grave – Chez Polyte
The refuge is located in the heart of an alpine area that is particularly suitable for hiking, both summer and winter. It is also an ideal stopover on the GR54 of the Tour de l'Oisans. Magnificent panorama of the north face of the Meije.
Welcome to “chez Polyte” (nickname of the last inhabitant of the place).
The Pic du Mas de la Grave refuge is built on the ruins of the Baraques des Salomons.
It is located in the commune of La Grave, 6 kilometers/1h30 from the hamlet of Chazelet, at the bottom of the Buffe valley, facing the majestic north face of the Meije (3983 m).
The refuge is the ideal stopover for climbing the peak of Mas de la Grave, an “easy 3000” with a magnificent 360° panorama of the Écrins, the Aiguilles d'Arves, the Grandes Rousses, Savoie and Mont Blanc. It also provides access to the Emparis plateau and its lakes, and to make crossings between the plateau and the Goléon.
We will welcome you around a good table (lunch and dinner), and will offer you cozy accommodation in small dormitories of four to six places. We will also be able to advise you on suitable itineraries, depending on the weather conditions and your interests.
South-facing terrace with exceptional panorama, games, books, pétanque, musical instruments (piano and guitar), Finnish sauna... Ideal for a moment of relaxation after exercise.
A winter mountain hut is open out of season, 6 places, with wood stove, dishes, and blankets.
