Since the fall, the excitement has been slowly building at Cycles et Sports… Having just returned from Paris, where Jean-Philippe was invited to the presentation of the 2022 Tour, his store has begun preparations. This year, its windows will be given a special makeover in the colors of the Tour de France, in partnership with the organizer.
Cycles and Sports, a “showcase” store
Since his first Tour in 1986 with Mavic, responsible for neutral assistance, Jean-Philippe Amperino has often experienced the "grande boucle" from the inside. On the roads as a mechanic for the equipment manufacturer, or aboard the Gewiss team car in 1991 between Bourg-d'Oisans and Morzine. Then later, from his shop that he opened in 1996, in the heart of Bourg-d'Oisans, at the heart of the madness of the Tour!
As we chat, the anecdotes flow, Jean-Philippe's eyes light up and the store team gets involved in the discussion.
Passion, when you hold us…
Cycles et Sports has seen enthusiasts from all over the world parade through its walls to experience one of the most popular events on the planet of sport. Each nationality comes to defend the colours of its champion; like this American with his Indian headdress, with feathers proudly raised, who left his mark on the store's team or when the store was transformed into a TV studio for a Dutch channel. It should be noted that no fewer than 180 countries broadcast the Tour and in particular the climb of the Alpe d'Huez. In 2013, the NOS channel set up its dressing rooms in the Cycles et Sports offices before positioning itself in front of the window as a backdrop for its 20pm news.
Even after the event has passed, the magic of the Tour continues to resonate... And when Échappées Belles seeks support on the climb of the 21 bends, it is the door of Cycles et Sports that TV host Jérôme Pitorin pushes in 2015.
The store cultivates the legend, but not only that, Jean-Philippe was able to live it by participating in the Stage of the Tour in 2016, between Annecy and Le Grand Bornand. A great experience with a millimeter organization. Riding a stage like a pro, it was the only spoke missing from his wheel.
There is no doubt that the Tour is part of the store's DNA, you can see it on the walls, with the photos taken over the years, including those of a journalist from Dauphiné Libéré who entrusted his archives to Cycles et Sports. And, once the whirlwind has died down, it sometimes happens that a few cycling champions like Joop Zoetemelk, Greg Lemond, Andy Schleck or members of the Tour organization drop by the store for a quick hello...
