The road rising to the village winds through narrow curves, sometimes in a deep forest, sometimes hanging over a steep slate quarry. Then, suddenly, everything opens up: the sun casts its golden rays, the high mountains surround you, and there, before you, stands Villard-Reymond, isolated in the greenery of a secret mountain pasture.

This remote region offers a striking balcony over the Oisans. From the Col du Solude car park, the view plunges over the valley of Bourg d'Oisans framed by the imposing peaks of theAlpe d'Huez. On the other side, the panorama takes in the evanescent contours of the Taillefer massif. At the foot of the high cliffs of the Écrins, this astonishing village is like a refuge surrounded by vertiginous peaks. Its vertical territory stretches from the tumultuous banks of the Lignarre, at 820 m, to the ethereal heights of Grand Renaud, culminating at 2 m. So it's hardly surprising that the village is perched at an altitude of 776 metres, making Villard-Reymond the highest commune in Isère and the second highest in France.
