ASTRONOMY WORKSHOPS & MOUNTAIN ENVIRONMENT DISCOVERY OUTINGS
ASTRONOMY WORKSHOPS:
– Making a sky map: students assemble a superb map with quality, rigid paper, representing the starry sky as well as the Moon on the back. During the activity, they will learn to recognize the most visible constellations and target the easiest objects to see with a small instrument! They will also learn Lunar cartography. A fun and personalized map since each student will have the opportunity to personalize it by decorating it according to their tastes!
– Creation of a model of the solar system: creation by group of a model of a planet (modeling clay, cardboard, paper, polystyrene, felt, paint, etc.). Presentation by a mini presentation of the characteristics of the planet represented. Reconstruction of the solar system on a reduced scale.
– The solar system: chronological walk from the Sun with an interactive slideshow. Overview of the Planets and explanations of their characteristics. The different space missions. Asteroids. Comets.
– Earth Moon Sun System: celestial mechanics are fascinating… Here, children build their own system with polystyrene spheres. The idea is to explain the phenomenon of eclipses, the phases of the Moon and the movement of the Earth around the Sun using a model that everyone will take home.
– Handling telescopes and binoculars: students will discover the differences between binoculars and telescopes, the different models and how each one works. They will also discover what a simple observation instrument has allowed as a discovery over the past 400 years. Then each student will make their own astronomical telescope (with 20x magnification) that they can take home.
– Mythology and tales: simplified and joyful mythology linked to the constellations. Interpretations of tales from different continents in connection with the stars and their observations… discussions, dreams and magic. Readings.
– Sundial: the Sun moves in the sky in appearance, this regular movement has been described and studied by Men. From then on, Humanity was able to understand the notion of time and the hour was invented, followed by the calendar. Students are invited to build a flat or vertical sundial, or even a circular dial. With the clear and detailed explanations, they will then be able to personalize their creations!
– Stargazing: During this vigil, we will be able to use our maps and possibly our glasses to observe the sky. Instruments will be available to the children to discover the stars through an eyepiece. The constellations are presented to them in detail, as well as their stories through the different mythologies of the world (Nordic and Greek in particular).
DISCOVERY OUTING OF THE MOUNTAIN ENVIRONMENT AMONG:
– Exploring a mountain village
– Discovery of the fauna of Oisans
– Flora of the Alps
– Visit to the Grand 'Maison dam
